Friday, October 12, 7:15 PM SHARP- 9:00 PM
Unless it’s too cloudy or raining, meet County night sky enthusiast Ramesh Pooran in front of the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (PEPtBO) in the National Wildlife Area. He and his fellow stargazers will focus your attention and their telescopes on stars and planets, the Milky Way, and the occasional satellite. You will see Mars and Saturn and the crescent Moon, as well as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies.
Please back into parking spaces. Please cover your flashlight with red plastic. (Regular flashlights interfere with/do not preserve your night vision.)
Bring binoculars and a folding chair. Dress warmly and as you would for a hike in the woods. You’ll take home a chart of the night sky. This event is suitable for children 5 years old and up.
BONUS: Stay for Owl Banding at the Observatory 8:30 – 9:30 pm
More Northern Saw-whet Owls are banded at PEPtBO than at any other banding station in North America. Get up close and personal with these charming migrants. Owl banding is weather-dependent. Check www.peptbo.ca for notices of cancellation in the event of rain and/or wind.
