The PEPtBO Spring Birding Festival runs from May 12 to 21, 2018. Events include guided walks and tours, workshops, and banding demonstrations.
The Canadian Nature Federation and Bird Studies Canada designated The County as an important global birding area (IBA) in 1998. The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (PEPtBO) is located along the eastern tip of Prince Edward County about 20 minutes southeast of Picton, Ontario in a National Wildlife Area.

Saturday, May 12 – World Migratory Bird Day. Join us for Swallow Day! This free event for the whole family begins at 10 AM at the Observatory with crafts and games led by educator Cheryl Chapman. At 12 noon, hear well-known birder Terry Sprague’s presentation about swallows. Visit the Bird Observatory and our hospitality tent for information, refreshments, recent sightings and banding demonstrations (dawn to 1 PM each day of the Festival)
Sunday, May 13 – Sunday, May 20: Big Week in the IBA Be a part of our ‘Big Week’. Everyone is invited to pick up a
checklist/map at the Observatory and submit lists of species observed in the South Shore IBA during the week. A wrap-up will be held Sunday May 20 at noon with prizes awarded. Help us beat our total of 121 species found last year!
Monday, May 21 – Birding the South Shore IBA. Join Peter Fuller as we explore the South Shore IBA starting at
5:30 AM at Lighthall Marsh for wetland species and then visit grassland, woodland and lakeshore, finishing in the evening listening to Whip-poor-wills and owls. Join us for part or all of the day – contact [email protected] for the
