The PEPtBO Spring Birding Festival is in May. Events include guided walks and tours, workshops, and banding demonstrations. The Canadian Nature Federation and Bird Studies Canada designated The County as an important global birding area (IBA) in 1998. The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory (PEPtBO) is located along the eastern tip of Prince Edward County about 20 minutes southeast of Picton, Ontario in a National Wildlife Area. The Observatory is normally open to the public every day Apr 10-May 31 and Aug 15-Oct 31 (banding takes place in the mornings). Free admission! Trails are open year round. For more information on birding, including Spring-time bird banding demonstrations, and Fall Northern saw-whet owl banding, visit the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory website: peptbo.ca.
The website has been built to allow seasonal residents and visitors to read the paper electronically and keep up to date about community events and activities. A secondary objective of the website is to extol the virtues of South Marysburgh – its talented and creative people; the numerous local businesses; its restaurants and inns. If you have never been down to this part of the County, hopefully you will find something here to entice you to visit.

This “Graveyard of Lake Ontario” contains some of Ontario`s richest marine heritage. This area has been referred to as “The Marysburgh Vortex” and some compare it to the “Bermuda Triangle”. According to shipping and insurance records during the schooner era and the early days of steamship travel, more than two thirds of the shipwrecks in Lake Ontario occurred in the area encompassed by the alleged Vortex. It has also been the scene of numerous UFO sightings over the years. One of the oldest mills along with the property, dam and millpond was purchased by the Prince Edward Region Conservation Authority in 1975.
